It is very hard to boil down success to anything especially 10 strategies. However, we have spent a fair amount of time and energy and picked the brains of specialists in this field with years of experience to try to break the code for the best strategies of success.
What we ended up with are the 10 Strategies of Success in Business and in Life.
Success means different things for different people. For some it may mean a job that you have been vying at. For some it means living a life of tranquility with your family. And then again for others it is running their own business. And if that is not enough, some other sactively look for a life full of intricacies and challenges that will unravel their best performance.
“In very simple terms success is turning your desires into your reality”
But in real life, and in more complex terms this is not that simple. Success is not a destination, but an ongoing process of growth and evolvement.
You do not set a goal on being successful at something – unless it is a school exam!
Instead, you could become exceptionally good at something whilst you are working at your success and in fact others will already look at you as a very successful person.
“Success is nothing but a side kick of having the winning hand of the game which you are playing. “
Here are the 10 Strategies for Success in Life and Business
#1 Have a Vision and a Plan – Otherwise You are only Left with Dreams
If you have no idea where you are heading, you are simply swept in the current of life. If haven’t got a vision and a plan and no strategies of success – you are simply going to be riding the wave that is going to take you nowhere.
Most people get no real say in their lives. Other people decide for them. It starts off with the parents, who decide which religion you will follow, what kind of education you will get, what career you should follow, whom you should marry, what kind of sport you should take up, how you spend your spare until – until there is nothing left for you but dreams.
You will become just a shadow of whom you thought you would become. You simply live out other people’s dreams but yours remain just dreams.
If you do not wish this to happen to you, and sadly at some point in time we all fall into the trap of accommodating other people’s dreams instead of ours – you really need to have your “beacon of light”. The light which is considered to be the North Star of your life! This has to become your focus, and which will propel you to take action to make your dreams become real – because they are your dreams.
You therefore need to have very clear goals.
#2 Strategies for Success – Find Fulfillment in Your Daily Life
Fulfillment is an art. What is good for you is not good for anyone else and success without fulfillment is the ultimate failure. Unless you are really happy(even if the going is tough) with what you are doing, unless you find fulfillment in your daily life, you will fail to find a key of the important strategies for success.
If you have goals but you are not fulfilled, you do not have meaning in your life. To prove this to you, we are reminded of one particularly harsh reality. How many of us knew Robin Williams? Robin Williams was the ultimate comedian. He was a great actor who would make you cry with laughter. When he decided to make a TV Show he did it. When he decided to get an academy award for a serious role, not his skillset and he got that too. We wanted a beautiful family and he got that. And yet one morning, he hung himself. His death came like a blow in everyone’s face. Robin Williams was not a fulfilled man. He worked to please everyone, but he never worked for his own fulfillment. He made everybody happy but himself – and that is not a good plan.
Sometimes, you need to make a different decision for your own success. Sometimes, you need to find your own beautiful state that makes you fulfilled. It could mean that you are doing less but you are more grateful, more happy, more generous, more fun or more playful. Find what works for you and not what works for others. You do not need to be limited to one state. That is the second of the 10 strategies of success.
Tip: Find fulfillment in your day-to-day life – in the little things that you do every day. It is not about hitting your huge ultimate goal, but it is about scoring your daily success story that counts.
#3 Stop Trying to Be a Perfectionist – 80% Done Now is Better than 100% Done Never
We are all perfectionists to some extent. When we obsess about getting things done to perfection there is a chance that we get nothing done because we get lost in detail.
The world has a lot more benefit with something done – even if it is not perfect than nothing done at all. Your job is to get some value out to the world even if this is not your idea of the best version of yourself. Because in the process of putting value, you are going to learn what the world really needs. Remember that people want the cake and not the candles that you put on it. Fluff and decoration are nice, but the real value lies in the information and action that you are putting out in the market. Not striving to be a perfectionist all the time one of the better strategies of success.
We have also touched up on this point in our blog – Dealing with Imposter Syndrome – where we dug deep into what causes the Syndrome and found that perfectionism is a culprit of many things that go wrong. When we sabotage our own work, we are simply killing our strategies of success.
Remember good enough when you need it is much more valuable than perfect when it is too late.
#4 Feed Your Mind with Greatness
Another one of the best strategies of success is to constantly fill your mind with the greatness of others. There is nothing more valuable than shrinking decades into days
from the experience of others. We do not need to experience every roadblock that the people we hold in high esteem have gone through – we can short-cut life and learn from them.
Reading, getting coaching, learning from tuition – whatever works for you is filling your mind with greatness. You will find plenty of solutions from others that you admire who have found the path before you.
When you are young you get schooling from teachers who pass information that they have learnt but as you grow older and you absorb information you are getting your real education.
#5 You are the Average of the Five People you Spend Most Time With
These are the words of motivational speaker Jim Rohn. When it comes to our personal relationships, we are always influenced by those who are closest to us – and this is whether we like it or not.
Of course, we are all unique and we are all individuals, however, the behavior and the thinking of those closest to us impacts the way we think, the way we behave, our self-esteem and also eventually our decisions.
Dr. David McCelland of Harvard University says: “the people you habitually associate with determine as much as 95 percent of your success or failure in life”.
It is true that in life some people propel us forward whilst others hold us back. For example, if you hang out with negative people, it is really hard to have a positive life.
This is not to say that we should surround ourselves exclusively with high-performance and high-achieving people if we want to find success in our business and in our lives. To the contrary, we also need to have critics in our life. The people who are positive and supportive want us to succeed, but as we become more successful, we face more and more criticism.
Therefore, in order to build your mental toughness and map out your road map to success you also need to meet the doubters, the critics and the envious. Without them you will never grow tough and sharpen your skills.
#6. The Choices You’re Making Now, Determine Where You Will be 10 Years from Now
Treat time with respect and do not procrastinate. Time has a habit of slipping through our fingers really fast.
The action you take today will impact your life in the next decade. If you are looking for great strategies of success be mindful of the decisions that you are making today.
You must also bear in mind that no one is going to do the work for you but yourself and no one will save you – you only have yourself to rely on when you face difficulties. Sure, there will always be people who will cheer you on and encourage you but bottom line – hard work is always going to be on your own menu and need to run your personal track yourself.
Therefore, when it comes to choosing the best strategies of success remember that the choices you make now, will determine where you will be in the future.
#7 Mind Your Business
Minding your business really means that you need to own your business, you need to feel totally empowered by what you do and that you do the stuff that gives you satisfaction.
You should own your business – not run your business. If you are impassioned by your business, you will feel like you are not even putting in an effort for your success because you do not feel like you are working at your business.
When you are doing things that you enjoy, it stops becoming a chore and success and results become inevitable.
Once you achieve this level of success, you also need to mind your business, to cultivate it and to care for it.
Having said this, it is quite important that you harvest from your business and gradually start investing your profits into other passive channels. Putting all your eggs in one basket is not always a great idea because if catastrophe hits, you will only be left with rotten eggs. If on the other hand you implement a strategy of harvesting some of your profits and planting them in other businesses – you will not only achieve success in your busines,s but you will achieve success in your life.
#8 Change Your Story – One of the Better Strategies of Success
“Impossible is not a fact but it is an opinion” – Tony Robbins
Anything is only impossible until someone else proves that it can be done. Our success mindset or our failure mindset is the only conditioning element in making life possible or impossible.
Making changes in your life can seem to be a real difficult task. But the truth is that we believe the stories that we tell ourselves.
Ironically, the more something is important, the more worried we are about doing it right – and in turn the more likely we are to put it off.
We can successfully create change by changing the story that we tell ourselves.
If for example, we have a business that is becoming slow and not turning profits – it usually has to do with us – with our mindset – more than the circumstances that we keep pointing at. If business is shifting, we are going to need to pivot along with it. But the first pivot has to come from our mind. We have to change our story.
If TV advertising worked in the past and today that is no longer an option because the market does not have enough eyeballs – then you need to shift your attention to marketing on social media.
If you do not have the skill set to master advertising on social media, you must either learn it or give it to someone who does it for you. But before you shift your mindset from thinking that your business is not working any longer because business is dead – to a new mindset that your marketing strategy is not working and therefore it is hurting your business and as such you need to change your marketing strategy – you will continue to believe that your business is a dead horse.
Change your story and the impossible will not long seem so daunting. Be creative and own your business.
#9 Be Grateful for What You Have but it is not wrong to want more
This is about creating the abundance mindset. How many times have you heard someone tell you, when is enough – enough for you? The truth is that you will take a break when you are no longer interested and challenged by what you are doing. There is absolutely no reason to stop what you are doing if you are enjoying it, if you are challenged and if you are seeing results.
There is no limit as to how much you can give back to others as well. With the experience you gain from your success, you are entrusted with the power of generating motivation, and wealth to others.
When you start growing and becoming successful, you are giving others the possibility to have work and have an integrity in their life.
People who do not cultivate the abundance mindset often believe that the pie is limited and that as soon as you eat a slice or two it is going to finish.
The people who understand the strategies of success know that there was no pie in the first place. They have learnt to bake the pie and therefore there is no reason why the pie should finish. Not only will the pie not finish, but there is abundant pie to share with everyone around.
Therefore, be grateful, share your abundance and go bake the next pie
#10 Success Comes as A Result of Putting Order into Chaos
Luck is not a strategy.
When something looks overwhelming and daunting you need to break it down into smaller pieces and start unravelling the big tangled ball of chaos. A transformational success begins with a good strategy.
When we have chaos, we find it almost impossible to have a strategy and success will elude us. In order to get clarity, we may need to share our problems with someone who has already walked our path and who will find it much easier to be objective about our problems.
You cannot keep all your anxiety and problems internalized – but you actually need to share them.
Remember that you are not unique with the problems you face, and someone else has already unraveled them.
If you are going to eat an elephant you must take it a bite at a time. Get clarity from advisors, or coaches and start chunking it down. Clear one bit of chaos at a time and you can rest assured that you will find yourself on the road to success.
This concludes our Top Ten Strategies for Success. However, this list is by no means exhaustive and everyone has a slightly different interpretation on the strategies that drive entrepreneurship and also success in life. If we had to add one last tip – it would be – respond to change.
As we know life is always changing and shifting. 2020 has been the ultimate challenge in terms of shifting and pivoting. Those who are able to respond to change are usually better placed to be versatile and find their success route much faster.
